Peace 911 Leads Dressmaking Training for Indigenous Peoples in Davao City
Aimed at empowering Indigenous Cultural Communities, the Davao City Peace 911 team, in collaboration with TESDA Davao City District Office, conducted an intensive five-day dressmaking workshop for Indigenous Peoples (IPs) from December 8–12, 2025, in Barangay Baganihan.
A total of 29 participants representing the Bagobo Tagabawa, Obu Manuvu, Matigsalug, and Ata tribes joined the program. They received foundational sewing instruction and practical garment-making techniques designed to enhance livelihood prospects while supporting the preservation and adaptation of traditional cultural designs.
"This five-day Dressmaking Training goes beyond teaching sewing, pattern-making, and garment construction. It opens up new opportunities, strengthens your confidence, and lays a solid groundwork for both livelihood and cultural expression. The outfits you created showcase your talent, patience, and dedication to bringing your tribe’s traditions to broader possibilities," stated Atty. Jonah Margarette F. Presto, Acting Head of Peace 911.
To mark the culmination on December 12, sewing kits donated by Therma South, Inc. were handed out to the participants.
During a message read on behalf of Peace 911’s Acting Head, Atty. Jonah Margarette F. Presto offered warm commendations to everyone involved.
"Your presence, discipline, and eagerness to learn reflect your courage and determination to improve your personal well-being and contribute to the development of your communities," she said.
As trainees completed the course, Presto encouraged them to view their new skills as a guiding tool for pursuing their chosen livelihoods. She expressed confidence that their growing knowledge would widen opportunities for their families and communities, and she affirmed the ongoing support of Peace 911 and its partners for this cultural and economic advancement initiative.
